This January marks the one-year anniversary of our journey with “Dạy Con Tiếng Việt.”
“Dạy Con Tiếng Việt” was founded in January 2023 by Annie Bui, the creator of Learn Vietnamese with Annie. As Annie has shared:
“Throughout my career as a Vietnamese language teacher, I have taught or met many overseas Vietnamese (or Việt kiều, as we call them). Their level of Vietnamese varies, and I have come to realize that parents play the most significant role in helping their children maintain a strong grasp of the language. Unfortunately, many parents don’t realize that teaching their children Vietnamese – simply by speaking to them in Vietnamese – is one of the greatest gifts they can give.
The topic of raising bilingual and bicultural children became of great personal interest to me after I became a mother myself – my husband and I don’t share the same native language.
I have searched online for guidelines and tips on this subject, but what’s available seems limited. So, I decided to share my own insights and experiences through my new podcast. The podcast is in Vietnamese, and I hope it will be useful for Vietnamese parents who are interested in giving their children the invaluable gift of fluency in their mother tongue.”

Over the past year, “Dạy Con Tiếng Việt” has released 26 podcast episodes, offering tips and insights on how to teach Vietnamese to your children while living abroad.
Learn Vietnamese with Annie has been providing Vietnamese lessons for children for many years, but since the “Dạy Con Tiếng Việt” podcast became popular, more and more Vietnamese parents have expressed interest in having their children take Vietnamese lessons in addition to speaking the language at home. For many parents, lessons are a great way to help children get started if they haven't spoken Vietnamese at home yet, or to provide them with a sense of community by connecting with other children.
What do online Vietnamese lessons for children look like?
Here’s a clip from a recent lesson featuring students who are children of Vietnamese heritage. In this lesson, they learn to name body parts, play fun games, and sing a song called Tập thể dục buổi sáng ("Morning Exercise")—a popular Vietnamese children's song that mentions many body parts.
Aside from paid lessons, “Dạy Con Tiếng Việt” also collaborates with the Vietnamese Association in the UK (VAUK) to run free weekend classes for children of Vietnamese heritage living in the UK.
In 2025, we plan to continue producing bi-weekly podcast episodes and blog posts, as well as expanding our Vietnamese lessons for children. We strive to provide fun, interactive, and modern lessons for children, helping them feel a sense of belonging to a community and connect better with their families and roots.
